PWGSC Operations has developed a federal electronic waste strategy which can be viewed here. Computers for Schools has the first right of refusal on any electronics related hardware including computers, laptops, monitors, printers and their peripherals. Custodians of federal computer equipment should ensure that surplus computers are not cannibalized or otherwise rendered unusable prior to transfer. The practice of removing hard drives, random access memory (RAM) and other essential components from computers before transferring them should only be done in those rare situations where security requirements dictate it.
All hard drives MUST be wiped prior to releasing equipment to Computers for Schools, the accompanying Surplus Certification Report must be completed. Federal departments should refer to the Treasury Board policy on Directive on Disposable of Surplus Materiel. We appreciate the support and funding from the Government of Canada - Merci beaucoup! |
