Federal Government

Trusted Government e-waste partner for over 30 years.

About

Over the last three decades, federal departments across Canada played a foundational role in building one of our country’s most impactful digital inclusion and circular economy initiatives — Computers for Schools Plus (CFS+).

Through Treasury Board language, CFS+ had first right of refusal on surplus federal computer assets, which have been used to transform lives and make digital accessibility easier for schools, nonprofits, and low-income individuals for over 30 years. While the CFS+ Program ended on March 31, 2026, demand for digital access in Canada continues to grow.

Our federal funding has ceased, but our mission and valued role in serving Canadians are needed more than ever. Demand for digital access and literacy in Canada continues to grow.

While the Treasury Board Directive on the Management of Materiel 4.2.16 was changed, you can continue to transfer your surplus computer equipment to ReuseTechBC as a registered charity. This will ensure that the divestment of tech assets continues to be done in a manner that supports the delivery of services to Canadians.

The benefits of maintaining our relationship are as follows:

  • We are trusted partners who have successfully dealt with your surplus equipment for 30+ years.

  • We have the expertise, tools, and talent to continue wiping (or shredding) hard drives, monitoring their health, and deploying licensed copies of Microsoft OS on devices.

  • We serve the whole of BC, creating more equitable access to refurbished equipment regardless of where departments may physically operate, especially for Indigenous communities.

  • We are a niche organization in the nonprofit sector; while there are others doing similar work, they do not perform to the same standard, scale, or provincial scope.

  • Non-profit organizations rely on us to give them ‘plug and play’ ready equipment, as they often do not have the infrastructure or staffing resources to wipe and refurbish equipment which may be donated directly.

We want to reassure you that:

  • We are continuing IT asset recovery and redistribution activities.

  • We will maintain the highest standards of data security, environmental stewardship, and reporting transparency.

  • We view IT asset donors as long-term strategic partners in Canada’s digital inclusion and Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) ecosystem.

  • Your equipment is valuable and has had its useful life doubled through refurbishment and reuse – it is not ready for end-of-life recycling.
