Monthly Update - November 2023

Happy December! This is our last Monthly Update of the year as we head into a shorter month here at BC Tech, but we had a great November. Thank you to the 25 donors who made contributions this month including Arc’Teryx, TELUS, Paladin Security, the Government of Canada, and new donor Canucks Sport & Entertainment with 81 computers and laptops. Go Canucks, Go!

It’s your donations that make it possible for us to provide equipment to individuals needing access to low-cost technology. We had a lovely thank you letter come in from a client who expressed immense gratitude.

Programs like this give people like me who are suffering a boost of hope. Having the option to purchase a refurbished computer at a reduced costs alleviates the stress of a large purchase. Being on a limited income due to a disability makes having to make a large purchase seem impossible.
— TELUS Internet for Good Recipient

In follow-up from September’s CFS+ 30 year anniversary, letters and certificates from ISED Minister Champagne were delivered to key donors including Langara College, Capilano University, Arc’Teryx, Metro Vancouver and TELUS. These organizations have been donating their equipment for 20+ years and we were happy to recognize their vital contributions.

BC Tech is now able to take cash donations online! If you don’t have any tech at this time but would still like to make a donation to support us and our mission, head to our Donate page and click the button for “Donate Cash”. All cash donations are eligible for a charitable tax receipt.

This month we delivered 665 computers to non-profits, schools, and family homes. We’re super proud of our technicians who have continued to surpass our monthly goal of 600 computers! Great work, team!

We had a bit of unexpected chaos in the warehouse mid-month when a water pipe burst in the electrical room beside our warehouse. Thankfully, this happened during regular business hours and with everyone pushing, scooping and bailing water out the loading bay doors, we sustained no damage to equipment or infrastructure. It would have been a much worse situation had this happened in the middle of the night! Instead, the floor got a good mopping and forced a bit of a clean-up before our next Featured Friday Garage Sale event (see below for more details).

On November 30 we attended the iTech conference in Vancouver. It was awesome to be back at in-person events and reconnect with the tech community. We were able to see some familiar faces as well as meet some new folks at our booth. It was a super positive experience and we can’t wait to come back!

Our next CFS Interns hiring period will take place in January, and we will begin to review resumes in December. If you or someone you know is interested in becoming a CFS Intern please send a resume and cover letter to hr@reusetechbc.ca. Reminder: due to our funding, only individuals between the ages of 15-30 who are Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or granted refugee status and legally entitled to work in Canada are eligible to apply. For the full job listing visit our CFS Internship page.

We will be hosting another Featured Inventory Friday Garage Sale on December 15! This event is the only time we allow clients to come to our warehouse and pick out equipment. It has been pre-refurbished so all pickups and payments are made available on the same day. This event is great if you’re looking to get specific equipment that might only be available on Featured Inventory. Returning clients and new organizations can sign up here to receive an event invitation. Please note: if you have not previously requested tech from us you will need to provide us with some additional information so that we can verify your organization’s eligibility for our programs.

BC Tech will be closed for Christmas break from December 20 to January 2, 2024. Our office hours will resume as usual on January 3. No donation pick-up requests or application forms will be reviewed until we reopen. Happy holidays!

Your Donations Matter.
